buddha stencil

this is a buddha stencil graff made in a similar way to the Doug Bader pic only without the photoshopping and from my own drawing.
Of course I'm far too middle-class as to actually paint on other people's walls and so it's on board

thoracic cavity

the thoracic cavity (chest) and the relations of the major vessels and organs are tricky to remember, so when studying the region (again, medical education is a lot of repetition), I made a model in 2d from card.

The background (black on white) is the vertebral column (spine) and the first and second ribs.

In front of this lies the oesophagus (gullet) in orange which is only visible as a thin line to the left of the trachea (windpipe, in black and white) here, but it passes down through the diaphragm into the abdomen where it is obvious.

I said to the left, which is true in anatomical terms, it's the patient's left -so it's on the right of the picture. Simple huh?

The threads are nerves, green is the vagus which runs down over the stomach but also throws a looping branch up under the arch of the aorta which runs back up to the voicebox - my favourite nerve -the recurrent laryngeal nerve. The orange threads are the phrenic nerves which move the diaphragm.

The red arch is the arch of the aorta taking all of the blood form the heart to the body. The light blue are the inferior and superior venae cava, returning the blood to the heart.

The black and dark blue are the pulmonary arteries and veins, to and from the lungs respectively and the black blob is the heart itself.

I suppose this must have worked as an aide-memoire 'cos I can still remember all this rubbish, although I wasn't asked any of it!

It's not the most polished of presentations because I wasted enough valuable revision time as it was on the thing.

how to stencil a poster/ graff pic part 1

I started with this picture of Douglas Bader ("look Ma ...no legs") from an old movie poster. Any pic will do as long as you remember: more colours = more layers = more cutting.

popping the jpg into a photo-editing program (photoshop, GIMP etc), I traced the shapes of about 4 different colour fields and a black outline.

I then printed 4 of the heads on plain paper and cut the various fields from the areas I wanted to spray, as shown.

Then placing the cut -out of the face on my canvas, I sprayed the background. If I hadn't been using a light colour for the face, I could have relied on it overpainting the area and not have bothered with the shield.

I used a light gold/brown mix for his tanned face.

then a darker brown for the goggles and mask

and finally a red brown for the flying helmet.

and the final product after over laying with th black outline stencil. (and forgetting to mask around the outside so i get those "stencil lines" around it. grrr. now I'll have to pretend I meant it to be like that.

steamzombie

steamzombie, originally uploaded by Sigh9.

What was I saying about monsters? I must say that having a little bit of anatomy knowlege helps a lot with composing pictures from scratch, like this little guy. Althiugh i actually drew him when I was supposed to be studying anatomy instead. So perhaps its his fault that my knowledge isn't as good as it might be.

things that go squelch

this is a composite of "bits" I love drawing: eyes, tentacles, blobby sacs and Monsters.
