almost 2

and so it came to pass in October of 2005 I started this small artblog. In the early days I posted a how to on stencilling with a pic of Douglas "no legs" Bader. As we approach the second birthday it seems appropriate to show this version of Doug "no body" Bader.

Remember back in the day, when the whole blogosphere went squidmad? No? Just me then. Somebody has put the squid to good use finally and used them to raise funds for the tsunami-victims.

This one's called Benedict.

They seems pretty expensive for a stuffed animal but, hey, good cause n that.

thing #2

Five Things: thing#2

I have an online doppelganger. Actually more of a doppelnaamer, really. Somebody who shares exactly the same first and last names as me and who works as a cartoonist and illustrator. He has the .com of our name/surname combination.

I don't have a particularly common surname, certainly the only moderately famous person I've ever found sharing my surname was a member of Spiritualised and even then, not really famous. So it's a bit strange finding myself online already doing my dream job.

A friend has advised me to give his (our) site address out to impressionable young things to increase my chances of impressing said things, after all I can prove it's my name up there in pixels. She was a little deflated when I pointed out the necessity of an internet connection for this plan; not likely in the kind of places one tends to find young people in need of impressing these days. Also: how many people want to shag a website? Apart from the pR0n ones, obviously.

succumb to the meme

I think the eyechild may have been cheating by tagging 5 blogs for the "5 things" meme, but hey I'm flattered, so I'll go with it.

I don't often write things in this blog, it's supposed to be about the drawing. So I'll dealing with my 5 things about me in cartoon form.

Thing #1:

I think I might be addicted to teh interwebs. No really. I get restless if I can't logon at least 3 times a day. Whenever I have nothing else pressing to do I have a very powerful urge to "check my email" or whatever it is I make the excuse of having to do. It's really just a need to escape. I have an ex-girlfriend who once accused me of "having a reading problem like other people have a drinking problem", I've just switched from the soft (cover) gateway drug to the hardwired real thing.

The clinical definition of addiction requires habituation, in which increasing doses are needed to stave off withdrawal, this has been true up to a point for me, although I seem to be plateauing now, hopefully. Also included is the gradual diminution of pleasure derived from the dependency, which explains the hours of dysphoric clicking on delicious, or this post from back in the day

The funny thing is, I've never really watched TV much and despise it for it's ability to suck up entire hours of my life; yet I can happily spend those same hours sitting in front of my lappie laughing at pictures of cats. Perhaps I'll have to start rationing my hours on this thing too.

myspastic

Instead of having, like, a real picture on myspace, I was clever and painted a (fairly realistic) portrait.
